Lydia O’Donnell, Ed.D., is Deputy Director of Health and Human Development programs and Director of HHD’s Centers for Health Care Practice and Research on High Risk Behaviors. She has overseen projects ranging from evaluations of sexuality and HIV prevention programs to comprehensive community-based interventions, and evaluations of changes in access to health care services. In particular, she has effectively used qualitative strategies to identify cultural differences in sexual norms and practices, and develop culturally sensitive interventions. Dr. O’Donnell is currently principal investigator of the Reach for Health project, a longitudinal study of the health behaviors of 3000 middle and high school students and a study of the mental health and suicide risks among minority adolescents and ways to collaborate with community organizations to improve services for minority youth. She is also principal investigator of the Young Brothers’ project in New York City, and the Women’s HIV Prevention intervention project, working with Latina women and community agencies to increase access to preventive services and care.
